I’ve been on the hunt for a pretty mirror for a while now and they’re usually either not the right shape, too expensive or the colour is just not right. So at a recent trip to an auction I found this beautiful mirror and manage to bag it for €12 yes 12 quid. Where would you get such a beautiful mirror at that price with history and character. I was so chuffed because although it was the right shape, size and had the most beautiful ornate detailing it was Gold, yes Gold which definitely wasn’t part of my colour theme. So this is where your imagination comes into play.
If you find a beautiful piece you’ll just find a way to make it work and thats exactly what I did with this beautiful but Gold mirror. Is there anything more reward than taking an old piece, upcycling it and just giving it some lovin. Armed with my tin of Autentico Eggshell paint in ‘Pigeon Grey’ the first thing was to give the mirror a really good clean down with some sugar soap and then wipe that down with a damp cloth, I gave it a little bit of a sand to create a key for the paint to stick to and then applied 3 coats of paint (leave about 8 hours between coats). It’s really that simple. Autentico Eggshell Chalk Paint has a built-in sealant so there is no need to wax or varnish it.
I’m sure you have some old pieces that are crying out to be upcycled or have found the perfect piece but its just not the right colour. Why not pick a beautiful shade for your piece that will fit with the rest of your decor.
